چکیده

In the mycobiont of the liehen Lichina pygmaea mesosome-like structures are described which mainly occur in the fungi cells close to the algal layer. These structures consist of numerous irregularly arranged tubuli which are most distinct after fixation with glutaraldehyde at pH 7.0. Using different fixatives at varying pH they tend to visiculate. In the cytoplasm neighboured to the mesosome-like structures zones of very high contrast appear. They consist of a homogenous and a granular substance. Staining the samples with Best Carmin or treating them with amylase it could be shown that at least the granular component of the darkly stained area represents glycogen. The function of the mesosome-like structures in glycogen synthesis is discussed.

Ecological Specialization of Two Photobiont-Specific Maritime Cyanolichen Species of the Genus Lichina

All fungi in the class Lichinomycetes are lichen-forming and exclusively associate with cyanobacteria. Two closely related maritime species of the genus Lichina (L. confinis and L. pygmaea) show similar distribution ranges in the Northeast Atlantic, commonly co-occurring at the same rocky shores but occupying different littoral zones. By means of 16S rRNA and phycocyanin operon markers we studi...

Effects of penicillin G on mesosome-like structures in Agmenellum quadruplicatum.

Agmenellum quadruplicatum was treated with lethal doses of penicillin G (15 and 75 U/ml) and then examined by electron microscopy to observe changes that took place before lysis. Treatment for 30 min led to increases in the frequency and size of mesosome-like structures within the cells. There was a direct correlation between the magnitude of these increases and the concentration of penicillin ...

Quantitative analysis of mycosporine-like amino acids in marine algae by capillary electrophoresis with diode-array detection

Marine species have evolved a variety of physical or chemical strategies to diminish damage from elevated environmental ultraviolet radiation. Mycosporine-like amino acids, a group of widely distributed small water soluble compounds, are biologically relevant because of their photo-protective potential. In addition, presumed antioxidant and skin protective strategies raise the interest for poss...

بررسی سنگ‌نگاری پاراگنیس‌های شمال شرق گلپایگان: میگماتیتی شدن و شواهد دگرگونی پسرونده

The studied area, as Ykeh-Chah unit, is a part of Golpayegan magmatic and metamorphic complex in Sanandaj-Sirjan structural zone. The unit consists of mylonitized and high- grade metamorphic rocks, including biotite-gneiss, biotite-garnet-gneiss, amphibolite and orthogneiss. The biotite gneiss and the biotite garnet gneiss have partly been migmatitized. They show various structures such as stro...

First record of the wolf spider genus Lysania Thorell, 1890 from India with the description of a new species (Araneae: Lycosidae: Zoicinae).

The lycosid spider genus Lysania Thorell, 1890 contains just three species found in Borneo, China and Malaysia (World Spider Catalog 2014), which build small, horizontal, sheet-like webs (Lehtinen & Hippa 1979; Li et al. 2013). Members of the genus are characterised by having a male pedipalp without an articulated median apophysis, a beak-like lateral apophysis and wider conductor and female ge...
